As Drust arrived back at the camp, everyone was smiling and happy. I felt my face burn up with anger. Why would he come back in the middle of the night? It felt so weird sleeping in my bed, even though it was the same old bed I slept in every night. I drifted off to sleep, thinking of the happiness I had in my old life. The freedom, the excitement.
‘YOLO!’ Jason woke me and Tiffi up, whisper-shouting so that no one could hear him except us. It was already a week since Drust came back, and I slept through the whole thing for some reason.
Ant told me he had a year’s long list of what I need to do for him. It was cruel to keep teenagers for workmen/ladies, and it was way past that era anyways.
Jason, the Captain, Tiff, Lydia, Ant were called to the secret room in the boys dorm. Sky and Chim were guarding the door and Mitty and Dawn were ‘working for the enemy’ which meant getting information from Drust and feeding it to us (not literally.)
I read out the about 90th thing he wrote on the list for me to complete: cut down the magic tree in front of the camp. Lydia said she was going to chain herself to the tree to protest, and that’s what we done.
As I chained myself to the tree, next to Chim and Sky, waking up everyone by shouting and banging.
When everyone was awake…
It was scary.
